Every year on July 20, the day the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was founded in 1924, we celebrate International Chess Day.

Since its inception by FIDE in 1966, this day has been designated as International Chess Day, an idea proposed by UNESCO.

Chess tournaments and activities are held all over the world on this day thanks to FIDE, an organization comprised of 181 chess federations.

According to FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, as recently as 2013, 178 countries observed International Chess Day.

On December 12, 2019, the UN General Assembly unanimously approved a resolution commemorating the day.

Many of the world's 605 million regular chess players mark the occasion.

This figure is roughly the same in countries as diverse as the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, and India.

International Chess Day 2022:Chess is a game of strategy and wits. It has long been considered to be the thinking game.

It is a wonderful game to play anytime, anywhere, and with almost everyone. International Chess Day is celebrated on 20 July annually.
